Biography
Dr. Jesús A. Meza‑Morales is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages at the University of The Bahamas, Oakes Field Campus, Nassau. He earned his M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations with a specialization in Iberian American Studies, and later completed a Ph.D. at the University of Salamanca in 2019, focusing on sociolinguistics, glottopolitics, and Spanish as a global language.
Dr. Meza‑Morales researches Spanish language teaching in multilingual contexts, language ideology, and the sociolinguistic dynamics of diaspora and diglossia. His work explores the interplay between English and Bahamian Creole, examining social and political implications within language use. He also investigates pan‑Hispanic competence and language policy, advocating for a broader, more integrated perspective on Spanish instruction across the Americas and Europe.
As an active scholar, he contributes extensively through peer‑reviewed articles and book reviews on Spanish sociolinguistics, language teaching, and lexicography. His recent notable work includes a review of “The Reference Book of the Neology of the Spanish Language,” published in IgMin Research (Jun 2024), where he offered critical insights into neology and lexical innovation in Spanish.
In addition to his IgMin contribution, he co‑authored an MDPI study on digital collaboration in higher education, focusing on digital competencies and collaborative attitudes amongst students.
At the University of The Bahamas, Dr. Meza‑Morales teaches and coordinates Spanish undergraduate courses (SPAN104), working to elevate Spanish language programs while fostering intercultural connections between the Hispanic and Bahamian communities

His work critically explores the dynamics of diglossia and bilingualism, particularly within the linguistic landscape of The Bahamas, where English, Bahamian Creole, and Spanish interact. He is deeply interested in glottopolitical frameworks—analyzing how language policies, ideologies, and power structures shape language use, identity, and education. His recent studies emphasize the promotion of pan-Hispanic competence, advocating for a more inclusive and integrative approach to Spanish instruction across the Americas. Dr. Meza-Morales also investigates lexical innovation and neology in Spanish, contributing scholarly reviews and research on the evolution of Spanish vocabulary. Additionally, he engages in research on digital collaboration in higher education, focusing on students’ digital literacy, collaborative skills, and the impact of educational technologies on language learning. His work bridges sociolinguistics, pedagogy, and applied language policy.

It promotes the free availability and unrestricted use of research outputs, enabling researchers, students, and the general public to access, read, download, and distribute scholarly articles without financial or legal barriers. In this response, I will provide you with an overview of the history and latest resolutions related to Open Access Policy.
This text presents a review of a fundamental book for the study of the neology of the Spanish language. This is a work published in 2022 to cover a space that had not been covered and that seeks to respond in a single work to the fundamental aspects according to its authors of the field of linguistics in charge of the creation of new terms and language evolution.
